Really cool footage from the musical "Pippen" called Simple Joys!!  What stage presence and what pipes she has!!!  Not to mention the dancing and acting to go with it!!

The wonderful Mr. Duane Davis came to Crossroads Middle School to work with the 8th grade choir on Monday, October 21st.  Mr. Davis is an accomplished professor of jazz studies and was Mrs. Hjelm's choir director back when she was young!!!  Yes, a long long time ago!!  Duane has worked at Creston High School, GRCC, and Western Michigan University.  He also is the Vocal Director for the Grand Rapids Opera!!  We are so lucky he could take the time out of his busy life to work on vocal jazz music with our singers!!  We are definitely more prepared for the FH Northern Jazz Festival which we will be a part of this upcoming Monday, October 28!!!  Hope to see lots of parents there!!

Please have your kiddos to Crossroads on Monday by 5:15 for our pizza party in the cafeteria.  If they have NOT paid for their pizza and/or choir shirt ~ please have them do so ASAP!!! 

8th grade choir only

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

         

           I want to fill you in on all the details for this upcoming Monday, October 28. We will be performing at the Forest Hills Jazz Festival at The FH Fine Arts Center on Forest Hills Ave.

          We will be meeting at Crossroads in the cafeteria around  5:15 PM.  We will eat, drink, and be merry!!!  Your child should have given me $3.00 to cover the pizza!  To keep prices down, please send in some kind of dessert or chips for the evening if you can!!  I will get the pizza and water bottles to drink!  Your child can bring that in anytime on or before Monday evening.

          We will then go to the choir room about 6:00 for a quick warm-up and sing through our two choir songs.  At 6:20 we will board the buses out front and be on our way to Forest Hills Fine Arts Center by 6:45 or so.   

         The concert begins at 7PM and we are the 3^rd act I believe.  If you would like to join us, tickets are $5.00 at the door!!! Students are to wear their choir shirt, jeans, and NO flip flops.  They can wear tennis shoes, boots, clogs, etc… just no sandals with open toes.  Jeans should be clean without any rips.  Some students have NOT paid for their choir shirt!! Please get that money in NOW along with their $3 pizza money!!! Checks made out to Northview Vocal Music!

          We will return around 9:30 or 10 PM but I will have them call you as we leave the concert so that you don’t have to wait or so you won’t be late.  It will be a super fun experience as we are only 1 of 2 Middle school choirs!  All the rest of the groups are HS or College level choirs.  The last group to perform will be the award winning, Gold Company from Western Michigan University!!  They are great!!!!

          This is a required performance so please be sure to get your child to Crossroads at least by 6:00 unless they will be joining us for dinner at 5:15.  Again, please be prepared to pick up your child that evening around 9:30 or 10PM in Crossroads parking lot.  If you want to chaperone – please call or email me ASAP!!!   Thanks a bunch!

All choir students are doing great in choir!  Working hard, singing well, and becoming wonderful "Crossroads Way" students!!  Parents ~ please encourage your singer to practice their songs a bit at home and study for upcoming quiz on all pages of their study guide!! 

8th grade:  Jazz Festival coming up on 

Monday, October 28 - we will start with a pizza party (please send in $3 with your kiddo) then we will rehearse a bit and board buses by 6:20!!!  

Attire is:  Choir shirt (which they will get by October 18 if they have paid) and nice jeans - no rips or tears - and any kind of shoe!!!
