8TH GRADE LYRICS FOR CONCERT

BABY ITS COLD OUTSIDE

GIRLS                                                            BOYS
I really can't stay -                                          Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away -                                       Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been -                                  Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice -                                                 I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry -                      Beautiful, what's your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor -               Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry -                             Beautiful, please don't hurry
Maybe just a few minutes more -                   I’ve never felt quite like this before
It’s so late at nite -                                          Baby, it's bad out ther
Who turned down the lites? -                         No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how -                                        Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell -                                        I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no sir -                          Mind if I move in closer?
At least I'm gonna say that I tried -                What's the sense in hurting my pride
I really can't stay -                                          Baby don't hold out

                                  Ah, but it's cold outside
                                           (
key change)
I simply must go -                                           But baby it's cold outside
The answer is no -                                          But baby it's cold outside
The welcome has been –                                How lucky that you’d dropped in
So nice and warm -                                         Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious -                         Gosh your lips look delicious
My brother will be there at the door -            Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunts mind is vicious -                Gosh your lips are delicious
And baby your so hard to ignore -                  never such a blizzard before

I've got to get home -                                     Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your comb -                              It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand -                             I thrill when you touch my hand.
But don't you see -                                          How can you do this thing to me?
There's bound to be talk tomorrow -              Think of my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied -           If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay -                                          oh baby don’t hold out

Ah, but it's cold outside, baby it's cold ….. OUT……  SIDE
                                         Baby it's - cold outside

PARENTS/GUARDIANS OF CHOIR STUDENTS

THIS IS BIG!!!!!

FREE ADMISSION TO THE OPERA THIS WEDNESDAY,
OCTOBER 29 @ DEVOS HALL 7:30 PM

MEET IN LOBBY AT 7PM TO GET THE FREE TIX

An opportunity has come up that I am hoping will work for any and all of my choir students!!  We have been offered free tix to the rehearsal of the Opera, Carmen, at Devos Hall THIS Wednesday, October 29.

The show starts at 7:30 PM but we would meet in the lobby at 7PM to get our tix!! Carmen is a 3 hour Opera but it does have an intermission so if that is too late for your singer, you could easily leave at intermission.

The main problem is I don’t have time to get busing so you would need to drop off your child at Devos and pick them up or better yet, join them for free and watch the show!!

If you would like to go, please email me or call so I can let them know how many tix we will need!  You are welcome to bring your whole family including younger siblings as I am sure there will be many that will be UNABLE to attend.

If you are going to join, maybe you could help drive some of your child’s friends that maybe cannot attend because of ride issues!!

Thanks for your time and I hope you can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity as most kids will never be able to see an Opera (especially for free) and this one is sure to be a great performance!!

PS. One of our very own choir students is actually in the Opera – Tia Hawks!!!

PPS. Your child may also use this as their LIVE performance which is due before Christmas Break!!

ATTENTION CHOIR STUDENTS
AND PARENTS:

LIVE Performance Critique and Concert Critique

All choir students will have papers due through out the year.
The two main assignments worth 75 points each semester are the
LIVE Performance Papers.

LIVE PERFORMANCE CRITIQUE

1st semester due:   FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2014
2nd semester due:  FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2015

You will need to see one LIVE musical performance per semester and write a paper on it.  The paper will consist of your constructive comments on what you thought of the performance.  The performance needs to be attended on your own time.  Every month I will list the musical performances going on in the district with time, cost, place, etc...  It is your job to write the information down and make it to one of these concerts.  If you want to see a performance on your own, you may do this as well.  Be sure to check with me before you go to be sure it is a LIVE musical performance.

Some shows that are not LIVE musical performance would be:
            1.  A play (no music)
            2.  A show on ice. (the music is taped not LIVE)
            3.  A live television show (you are not seeing it LIVE)

Lastly, when your report is finished, you will need to attach your ticket stub, program, and have a parent signature saying that you did indeed attend this concert.

NOTE:  YOU WILL NEED TO TURN IN THE REPORT WITHIN 1 MONTH OF SEEING THE PERFORMANCE OR IT WILL NOT COUNT!!!

CONCERT CRITIQUE

Due 1 week after every concert that we perform!!

A concert critique will be done after every performance that we have as a choir.  You will comment on how we performed in the concert.  What are some things that we did well?  What are some things that we need to work on?  What are some things that you specifically did or did not do well.  How will you do better at your next concert?  If by chance you were unable to attend the concert, you will still need to write a report on the performance after watching and listening to the video.  This paper will be due 1 week after the concert unless specified otherwise.

CRITERIA FOR BOTH PAPERS

1. One FULL page typed – PLEASE USE SPELL AND GRAMMAR CHECK!!
2.  Normal margins, normal heading, double spaced
3.  Size 12 font (UNDERLINE SONG TITLES)
4.  Opening paragraph, body, closing paragraph (REALLY IMPORTANT!!!)
5.  Use of musical terminology (at least 3 terms) such as:  use of dynamics, tone, intonation, blending within sections and overall group, annunciation, diction, open vowels, lifting of soft palette, diaphragmatic breathing, etc...

ATTENTION CHOIR PARENTS

The Northview Board of Education has approved the placement of a “Renewal of the 18 Mills of Non-Homestead Millage” on the November 4, 2014 ballot. There is no tax rate increase. The tax applies only to commercial and industrial property and second homes, not primary residences.

Voters would be renewing the tax, which expires in 2015, for 12 years, 2016 to 2027. The renewal would generate approximately $3 million for the district in 2016 for general operations for classrooms.

Please vote on Tuesday, November 4.

Thriller Flash Mob Step by Step

Hey choir students, if you need to practice for concert -
here is the step by step flash mob!!
Watch and learn and practice!!  A LOT!!!!

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

As you may be aware, a NO TAX RATE INCREASE RENEWAL of the building and site millage for a period of ten years is on the May 6, 2014 ballot.  This money may not be used for salaries, operating expenses or equipment.  If this fund was not present, we would need to divert operating dollars from classroom and co-curricular programs to facilities repair and safety upgrades.

Here is a link to a story on the request for a renewal written by School News Network reporter Charles Honey:

http://www.schoolnewsnetwork.org/index.php/2013-14/northview-asks-voters-maintain-students-learning-homes/

Here is a link to a short view of the six school districts asking for community support:

http://www.schoolnewsnetwork.org/index.php/2013-14/six-kent-isd-districts-seek-funds-buildings-safety-and-technology/

Attached  is a list of "frequently asked questions" regarding the ballot proposal.

I am asking you to share this information with those in your email address book, on your social media pages, and across the back fence in your neighborhood.  Remind others to vote on May 6, 2014.

Sincerely,

Mike Paskewicz, Superintendent

END OF THE YEAR CHOIR TRIP TO:

MICHIGAN ADVENTURE

Thursday, May 29, 2014

This letter will be going home with your child on Wednesday, May 30
Well, parents ~ we are almost here!!  Can you believe we are planning our final trip for the year?? We are busy preparing for our POPS concert, final exams, and all the fun we will have at MI Adventure!!!  Here is the lowdown:

Tickets for the both the water park and the regular park will be $20.00 total which includes lunch!!

Traveling with 2 buses will cost approximately $800.00 for all 100 students.  Total for busing per person will be $8.00!

Grand total for kids ~ $28.00

There will be a few students who CANNOT afford to pay so I will be paying for them so that ALL the kids can attend!  If you can bump your check up to $30 to help off-set those who cannot pay – I would greatly appreciate it!  Every little bit helps!!  No worries if you cannot!  I know times are tough!!

It will be a long day as we will leave around 9am and will return hopefully before 7PM to Crossroads Middle School! Have kiddos eat a good breakfast, we will serve them lunch, but we will NOT be getting dinner!  They may want to bring extra cash for snacks throughout the day!! However, it is NOT required!!

Students should wear their choir shirt and shorts/pants!  They should also bring their appropriate bathing suit!  There are lockers to put clothes in while they are at the water park!  Send some change for lockers!!  Please call or email with any questions or concerns!

I NEED CHAPERONES SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP OUT!!!

Before I sign off – here are some other upcoming important choir events:

Hello all,

I am Erik Childers and I will be student teaching with Mrs. Hjelm through this April. I go to GVSU and study Vocal/Choral Education with a minor in Piano. I am really looking forward to working with such bright students and energetic personalities - I feel we will make this a great experience for all of us.

I originate from the Muskegon area, but have been living in the Grand Rapids area for about 5 years now. I am still getting acquainted with the area - so, please introduce yourself if you ever get the chance. I am excited to get to know all of you and make some great music at such a GREAT school.

Mr. Childers
